One step ahead

During Easter week, a short-term team working with OM USA’s medical ministries held a clinic in rural Panama. Even though the temps were rising in the hot and sticky school room, 100 people were still waiting for medical attention. And, a group of local dentists had joined them. Unfortunately, the Spanish-speaking pharmacist who was translating their prescriptions had to leave; they were also quickly running through the supply of medicines.

“I immediately began to order limits on medicines while our country leader explained the situation to the dentists,” says Dr. Pat Railey. “We shuffled translators to help the pharmacy and a local man went in search of medicines. However, God knew this was coming and was already at work. About a half hour later, a group of medical students and their supervising faculty member from Puerto Rico suddenly appeared, seeking to provide care in a poor area! They just happened to speak fluent English. They also just happened to have large bags full of medicine that they were willing to share freely. When we asked their leader how they found us, he said they came because someone prayed.”

Praise God for being in control of unanticipated situations, and pray for more participants for upcoming medical teams to India, Swaziland, Peru, Lebanon and Indonesia.
