Living with HIV

OM International
English/Español

Alvaro*, from Brazil, has been HIV positive for 13 years. He recently made a trip to Zambia to participate in a missions conference. He had many chances to share his testimony of how God has brought him to the point where he can live positively with HIV.

There is a desperate need for those living with HIV to have good role models and acceptance. After a workshop in Zambia, which was attended by about 50 people, 11 approached him wanting to talk because they too are HIV positive. They were very encouraged by Alvaro's story. For some of them, he was the first person they had been able to confide in.

He found that it was a good experience to sleep where the people sleep, eat what they eat and bathe where they bathe. But in his 30 days there, he realised how hard it is for those who are living with HIV in Zambia. “I am used to eating rice, beans and meat every day,” he said. “But, in Zambia, the people only eat shima (corn meal), and their diet lacks vitamins and protein. I can imagine why the people living with HIV die so fast. Some people told me that because they don’t have enough food and clean water, they give up on the treatment.”

Please pray for those living with HIV in Zambia and Southern Africa. Praise God that Alvaro was able to minister to some of them. Please pray for more opportunities for Alvaro to shine a light into the lives of those living with HIV.

VIVIR CON VIH – Zambia
