Celeste finds her place
Celeste, an 11-years-old girl, suffers hearing loss. She lives in Las Violetas, a very tough neighbourhood in Córdoba, Argentina, and she doesn’t go to school. In her home she is treated very badly and is never called by her name, but by “The Deaf”.Earlier this year, she started attending the workshops at El Refugio, a teen house run by OM. Every Wednesday, Mirian, an OMer, teaches handcrafts. Celeste is always the first one there. Many times she comes earlier than Mirian and waits at the door. Mirian says, “Every time the workshop is over, Celeste points to a calendar and asks us how many days there are until the next class.”
Five weeks ago, Samuel, another OMer who is studying to be a sign language teacher, started a workshop at El Refugio. Celeste is so excited. “This is her moment, her space,” shared Samuel. “I can’t make her stop talking.”
Celeste found a place of comfort and the love of the Lord. Please pray for Celeste and many others who suffer from discrimination within Las Violetas. Pray for wisdom for the OM team to plan the programme and activities for next year at El Refugio.
