Mobilising the Romanian Church for Mission

There is much discussion about the spectacular growth of the Romanian church in the last 20 years, and yet of the relatively small exposure to world mission they have received.

Since 2001, a general interest for networking amongst Christian organisations in Romania has emerged. Initially, six* organisations met to form the foundation of what is becoming a mission movement within Romania, with the purpose of spreading the Gospel nationally and internationally. Partners in Missions (PiM) emerged.

In May 2009, PiM organised a conference with over 80 church/NGO leaders, including heads of the Baptist, Brethren and Pentecostal Unions to discuss national and international missions for Romanians. The main speakers, Alejandro Rodriguez (Argentina), Ngwiya Mnkandla (Nigeria), David Ruiz (Guatemala) and Petru Lascau (Romania), explained how God is at work in Latin America and the potential of Romania becoming the next emerging mission movement in the world.

As a result of the PiM 2009 Conference, another 13 Christian organisations joining the partnership in May 2010, including Campus Crusade, CEF, Wycliffe Romania, Student Volunteer Movement2 (SVM2).

Partner organisations of PiM include:

Agentia Kairos, Alege Viata, Alfa.Omega TV, Asociatia Misionara pentru Evanghelizarea Copiilor (AMEC), AMI, Evanghelia fara Frontiere, Greater European Mission, Lumina Lumii, Misiunea Speranta, Misiunea Mondiala Unita (MMU Romania), Misiune Transculturala si Ucenicie (MTU), OCI Romania, OM Romania, ProMission, Societatea Internationala Misionara Baptista (SIMB), Source of Light, Student Volunteer Movement 2 (SVM 2), Tineri pentru Misiune (TPM), Wycliffe Romania.

One of the main values of PiM is to esteem the Church. OM Romania is excited to see the full participation and blessing of Christian unions in this partnership.

“A national mission movement needs to be the objective of every church and Christian organisation in Romania. A common goal needs common effort. That is what PiM and evangelical churches are trying to do.” Pavel Chiritescu, Vice-President of Brethren Union and Co-ordinator of the Brethren Union Mission Committee.

“Among the many expectations of PiM, I personally have two: a clear evaluation of missionary ministry in Romania and a challenge for what will be next.” Ioan Moldovan, Vice-President of Pentecostal Union.

“Because God wants the salvation of all people, the national evangelistic programme and church planting initiative promoted by PiM it is a good strategy that needs to be supported to reach this generation.” Pastor Boingeanu Dan, Baptist Pastor
