Short-term Missions Trip

Transform 2012 Portugal - Surf & Bodyboard Outreach (Portugal)

Transform2012 (www.transform.om.org) is a unified effort around the Mediterranean to create momentum for the gospel by mobilising people and training them in telling their personal God story. This outreach will work in the beach area of Porto and possibly other surfing areas within short distance of the city.

Portugal has one of the best surfing coasts in the world — with world class surfing competitions, as well as beginners. Most days will be spent on the beach getting to know surfers and doing friendship evangelism. There may be other activities such as surf club at the church.

1,450 AUD (participants from Tonga)

16th to 21st July – central conference in Rome, Italy
21st July – travel from Rome to, Portugal
22nd July to 4th August - outreach in Porto area

Experienced surfers — surfers with a passion for sharing the gospel with the people they meet on the beach. You will need to bring your surf equipment — the water on the atlantic coast is COLD!

Probably in church members' homes or other budget accommodation nearby. There may be a need to rent team accommodation close to the beach. If we can arrange cheaper accommodation, we will lower the price of this option accordingly.

This will be arranged by the church. It will be VERY DIFFICULT to cater for special diets. If you have a food INTOLERANCE, this may not be the best option for you.

You need to book and pay for your own travel to Rome on the 16th July, Rome to Portugal on 21st July and from Portugal back home on the 4th August. How to find us: The conference will take place in the area of Rome. Detailed information about travel to the conference site will be given to you by your local OM office.

GOOD HEALTH — non-European citizens need to ensure their own health insurance. European citizens should bring the European Health Insurance Card (available freely from your local Social Security or Health Authority in your country).

Portugal is part of the Schengen area of Europe. Travellers from Rome need no other visas (you may need a visa to enter Italy from outside the Schengen zone.)

There may be changes in this option — if there is wide interest we may have a second group in the Lisbon area. If we can arrange cheaper accommodation, we will lower the price accordingly.
