Short-term Missions Trip

Lifehope New Year Outreach - Joy in the City (United Kingdom)

Our purpose is to share the good news about Jesus with people in the Birmingham area.  We also want to equip you to reach out to others.

Over the new year period, many people have time off and think about new year resolutions. This is an ideal time to befriend people and bring them news of hope for the future. Together with many international young people and working alongside several churches, you will be reaching out to people with the love of God and the message of the Gospel in and around Birmingham. Come and join us and celebrate the New Year in a very different way, making a difference in people's lives!

Activities could include open airs, literature distribution, door-to-door, prayer walking, homeless ministry and children’s ministry.

Comments from some of our participants from last year:

“This outreach was exactly what I needed to take a step back from the busyness of life and refocus on God and my relationship with him in preparation for a new year.”
– Tamika from Barbados

“When I was giving out tracts I saw God working through us. Our English still wasn't very good but we could see some people challenged to think about the 'New Year Resolution' tract as we shared with them what we had done in the past week.”
– Simon from Switzerland

“While were cleaning one of the local streets, two police officers came up and shared that they were very pleased that some people cared for the area and trying to clean it up!!!”

  • Maartje from the Netherlands

You must be able to speak conversational English. Previous experience is not required as orientation and training will be given.

You should come prepared to sleep on the floor.  Bring your own sleeping bag and an air-mattress or mat.

If possible, participants should fly into Birmingham International Airport and we will arrange for them to be met at the airport.  Those flying into London or Manchester should take a coach (bus) to Birmingham central coach station and we will arrange for them to be collected from the coach station.  To find details of coaches, please check out www.nationalexpress.com   How to find us: The arrival point will be Birmingham airport, train station or coach station.  We will meet you there and take you to where you are staying.

Participants should be in average good health and able to walk a reasonable distance without difficulty.  Each participant is responsible to obtain appropriate emergency health and medical insurance.

Nationals from the EU and EEA do not require a visa for the UK.  For all other nationalities you will either require an invitation letter in order to apply for a visa before leaving your country or just an invitation letter to present at the airport on arrival in the UK. In both cases you will enter the UK as a Visitor.

Arrival is before 5 pm on the 27th December.  People can arrive anytime in the morning or early afternoon.

Departure is on the 5th of January.

It will be difficult to arrange early arrivals as it is the Christmas break, but we can arrange late departures by providing one extra night's accommodation if needed.
