Short-term Missions Trip

Summer in the South 2 - Avignon Outreach 2011 ##FULL## (France)

We want to touch the tourists and locals of Avignon with the Gospel during this annual festival.

Each year Avignon hosts large festival where open-air performers are encouraged to share their talent with thousands of tourists. What better opportunity to present the Gospel with sketchboard, music and mime? Join a small team focused on bringing the light of Christ to this event!

Sat 09 Jul 2011 – Sat 16 Jul 2011
Mon 11 Apr 2011
563 USD (participants from United States)
18-80

Mornings will be spent in team prayer/worship/Bible study, as well as preparing for the day's evangelism. Leaders will give training in sketchboard evangelism. Afternoons will be free for resting or sight-seeing. Evenings will be spent on the streets doing evangelism: sketchboard, music, mime, one-on-one conversations, and tracting.

Thousands of people will be out in the streets. They enjoy watching all sorts of street acts. The team will give out tracts with the local church address and phone number, following conversations. Some church members may join the team in evangelism.

Participants will join experienced evangelists and pastors in this outreach. We are looking for participants motivated to share the Gospel out on the streets! You need to be ready to engage others in conversation! French is helpful, but not required.

Participants will sleep in Etap hotel rooms - at least 2 people to a room. Each room has at least one bunk bed and one double bed, plus air conditioning and bathroom. The hotel is in the centre of town, very near the outreach location.

Breakfast will be taken at the hotel. Breakfast IS included in the outreach cost. Lunch and dinner will be at inexpensive local restaurants. Lunch and dinner are NOT included in the outreach cost. Participants will need to bring around 150 euros for their mid-day and evening meals (150 euros for the week). (This is in addition to whatever pocket money they want to bring.) Please understand that participant lunch and dinner money will not be handled through OM - the participant must take care of it.

Participants will need to book their own travel to Avignon. They could travel to Avignon by car, or by train. Take the train to ‘Avignon Centre’, only 300m from the hotel, or to ‘Avignon TGV’, then take the coach to the centre of Avignon to the Post Office (La Poste, 200m from the hotel). We strongly recommend that you reserve your coach travel at the same time as your train ticket. We suggest booking travel at least 3 months in advance due to the popularity of the Avignon festival. How to find us: Coming out of the main entrance of the "Avignon Centre" train station, the Etap Hotel is 600 meters to the left down the same road. Meet the team at the Etap Hotel (8 Boulevard St. Dominique, 84000 Avignon, tel: 08 92 68 07 24). Meeting time is at the hotel between 2 and 6 pm on 9 July.

Participants should be in reasonably good health, ready for an intense week of evangelism activities. Any special needs (food allergies, special diet, etc) must be communicated as early as possible so that we can determine if it possible to receive that person on this particular outreach.

Some participants from non-European countries may require a visa. Those participants will need to begin their application process with the OM office in their country at least 1 month in advance of the application deadline given here. Please contact the OM office in your country for more information.
