Short-term Missions Trip

Lifehope Olympics - DanceLink/OM Arts More than Gold (United Kingdom)

With the Olympics coming to the UK this summer we have a great opportunity to reach people coming from so many nations across the world. The Olympics also provides opportunities to relate to people who already live in our communities. Through More than Gold, we want to equip, train and challenge you to reflect Jesus Christ and to use your dance gifts to bring Hope. As a result, we want to see the community impacted. We also hope that you will go away strengthened in your faith and with a deeper desire to use dance back at home to communicate the Gospel.

As part of our Olympics focus this summer you will be joining a dance team. Opportunities will be varied and will probably include dance performances in public spaces and also in churches. You will also have opportunities to interact with the local people you will be reaching out to.

You will spend the first few days at our Training Centre, meeting with all the dancers, rehearsing the dance routines and getting ready for the outreach. After these initial days of preparation, the dance team will join the More than Gold Outreach together with other international participants. You will perform dance in a variety of settings, as well as engaging with the local people.

Any type of dancers (hip hop, ballet, tap, ballroom, etc.) who are passionate about God.

The first few days, you will be sleeping at our Training Centre for the initial time of rehearsals and preparation. After this, you should be prepared to move and sleep in a church hall or other simpler accommodation for the outreach. Bring your own sleeping bag and mat.

At the training centre, food will be provided by our cook. During the outreach, food will be provided by the church. We need to know in advance of any special dietary needs (vegetarian, food allergies, and so on)

If possible, please plan to fly into Birmingham International Airport (BHX) as this is the nearest airport. If no good flights can be found to Birmingham, other possible airports are London or Manchester. There are good train and bus connections from these airports to Birmingham.

You must be in good health for all the dance pratice and performances. You are responsible to obtain appropriate emergency health and medical insurance.

Nationals from the EU and EEA do not require a visa for the UK. For all other nationalities you will either require an invitation letter in order to apply for a visa before leaving your country or just an invitation letter to present at the airport on arrival in the UK. In both cases you will enter the UK as a Visitor.

If you are flying from outside of Europe, we recommend that you arrive one day earlier to get over jet lag.
