Country Profile: Zimbabwe

Welcome to Zimbabwe – A world of wonders . . .
Background
When thinking of Zimbabwe, several idyllic pictures may come to mind: the Victoria Falls, bungee jumping and white-water rafting, beautiful sunsets, canoeing around hippos, the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, the orange and golden colours of the Msasa trees...
The Shona and Ndebele are the main peoples in Zimbabwe; the Tonga are a marginalised group clustered mainly in the northwest. Zimbabwe has many challenges - an 80 percent unemployment rate and rampant corruption are but two. The economy seems to be improving slowly, yet millions are still dependent on food aid. HIV/AIDS is high, leaving many orphans. Despite these difficulties, the people have maintained their strength and humour.
OM Zimbabwe
OM started in Zimbabwe in 1995. The first “Love Africa Missions Conference” was held in Harare that year, and in 1998 OM Zimbabwe mobilised the first “National Day of Prayer”.
Vision
OM Zimbabwe believes that once again God desires to raise up the nation of Zimbabwe to be the "breadbasket of Africa", but for now it will be the Church offering the Living Bread of Jesus Christ to the nations of Africa and beyond. OM Zimbabwe's role in the body of Christ is to mobilise the Church to send workers, and to facilitate the sending of workers to make disciples of all nations.
Implementation
We aim to do this through:
- assisting churches to develop a missions vision and strategy, and to participate in missions
- providing training and equipping for prospective missionaries and churches that send missionaries (member care programmes)
- mobilising businessmen for missions involvement
- building partnerships with like-minded churches and other organisations that share our vision
- being a missions resource centre to churches and individuals
- providing administrative, financial and pastoral care services for our members and
- keeping ourselves informed of the work of missions worldwide
Our Tonga Ministry reaches out to this marginalised tribe, discipling leaders in the community. This is done through various platforms including medical, farming, training, pastoral development, education and community development. The foundation work of the ministry is the mobile clinic.
How can you become involved?
Pray with us that God will give the Church in Zimbabwe His heart for the nations of the world, and that we will be an effective tool in His hands.
Consider joining us in this exciting time in Zimbabwe as we mobilise the Church to send hundreds of workers to make disciples of all nations. All of our departments are in need of more workers to see this vision fulfilled.
Partner with us by supporting a missionary from Zimbabwe to go and impact the nations of Africa and beyond.
