  • Assistant/ Manager for Christian Multimedia Project

Many people in rural Central Asia are functionally illiterate and much prefer watching TV or DVDs/ videos to reading books for either relaxation or information-gathering purposes. As a result, culturally appropriate DVD/video materials make an effective tool for evangelism and discipleship/ training.

Both mission and local church leaders see the production and distribution of appropriate video/ DVD materials into local languages as a high priority. But lack of manpower is slowing this process. OM is a significant financial contributor to this ministry but doesn't currently have a team-member who is "hands on" in this project.

Our multimedia project offers a unique and amazing opportunity to partner with local believers to facilitate the selection, production and distribution of media materials throughout the country, greatly improving the access of Central Asia's Muslims to the gospel.

We accomplish these aims by finding local champions and participants for community health, education, disability and water/ sanitation programmes, plus micro enterprise initiatives.

Poverty in rural Central Asia forces many men to seek work in Russia for months or years at a time. Labor migrants typically work in difficult and dangerous conditions, have questionable legal status within Russia and may become victims of racially-motivated violence. While labor migration enables many rural families to survive, the long-term economic benefits are limited as labor migration drains skills, resources and creativity away from the local economy. In addition, the rates of family breakdown and HIV infection are growing rapidly as a direct result of labor migration.

In Central Asia, OM partners with both local and international NGOs in a variety of small business development programs, aimed at breaking the cycle of labor migration

We urgently need experienced personnel from a business background who can be involved in training, resourcing and mentoring Central Asian entrepreneurs - men and women - through the process of establishing and expanding their own businesses.
