After 13 weeks of unusually heavy rainfall, Ecuador suffered flooding in densely-populated coastal lowlands.  About 50 people were killed and 14,000 were displaced.   The destruction of crops resulted in job loss and food shortages, while stagnant water led to outbreaks of dengue fever and malaria, as well as parasitic and viral infections.

Workers with OM Ecuador engaged in two relief efforts, collecting and distributing food, water, mattresses and clothes and tying this together with evangelistic programs. God provided generously and more than 250 needy families  have received physical help as well as hope and a smile in hard times.

Darren van Rensburg from OM Ecudator wrote, "We have also seen at least 11 adults indicating a response to the Gospel, as well as a number of children.  We have received further requests for help from pastors in affected areas who have heard about our first two efforts and we want to respond to this situation. However, the first two efforts have really stretched our resources.

INUNDACIONES EN ECUADOR

Durante las últimas 13 semanas, Ecuador ha sufrido fuertes lluvias de una manera inusual, que han inundado las tierras bajas costeras densamente pobladas. Cerca de 50 personas han perdido la vida y 14.000 han sido evacuadas. La destrucción de cosechas se traduce en pérdida de trabajo y escasez de alimentos, mientras que el agua estancada produce enfermedades como el dengue y la malaria, como así también parásitos e infecciones virales.

Obreros de OM Ecuador han puesto en funcionamiento dos programas de ayuda, la recolección y distribución de alimentos, agua, colchones y ropa, acompañados de programas evangelísticos. Dios ha provisto generosamente y más de 250 familias han recibido tanto ayuda física como esperanza y sonrisas en medio de tiempos difíciles.

Darren van Rensburg de OM Ecuador dijo que, “pudimos ver también al menos a 11 adultos indicar una respuesta al Evangelio, así como varios niños. Hemos recibido más pedidos de ayuda de pastores en las áreas afectadas quienes han oído acerca de los dos primeros programas y queremos responder a esta situación. Sin embargo, los dos primeros esfuerzos nos han dejado casi sin recursos.

“Durante las próximas dos semanas queremos ayudar a 200 familias en el área llamada Vinces, donde las inundaciones han destruido cosechas, hogares y trabajos y la gente está a punto de desfallecer por el hambre. Cualquier contribución será muy apreciada.
