Winds of change for ChileOM InternationalAfter thirteen years as OM Leaders in Chile, Alvaro and Harriet Yañez and their three children are in the process of moving to the Netherlands to take up their new challenge as OM's Latin American representatives in Europe."The four main goals of my job will be to promote OM Latin American ministries and opportunities in Europe, recruit for Latin America, raise finances, and encourage Latinos in Europe," explains Alvaro, who invested five years of studies in public relations and communications in tandem with his leadership role. "My passion is communication-motivating people!" To do this, he will be visiting churches, OM fields and recruiting conferences. The work in Chile was kick-started in 1988 when Alvaro's parents, Ramon and Silvia Yañez, were enthused by the visit of an OM ship. The couple talked with Doulos director Frank Dietz, who suggested that they become OM representatives. Since then over 100 Chileans have been sent into OM, long and short-term, and a high percentage of these are still involved in missions. Alvaro and Harriet, who is Dutch and the daughter of missionaries, met while serving on Logos II. They accepted field leadership in 1995. Alvaro plans to continue as a long-distance leader for Chile until April 2009, supervising decisions in consultation with interim team leader Hal Henson. Please pray for the Yañez family as they settle into a very different life in the Netherlands; for Hal as he takes on his new responsibility in Santiago; for team unity and continued open doors for ministry.
