Missionary Candidates Preparing to Go!
OM International

Thirty-three people attended OM USA’s June “OutBound” conference for people applying to join OM. These week-long conferences are held three times during the year for people who have completed the application process. One activity during the week is an outreach in downtown Atlanta. Participants pair up and go onto the streets to try to meet people and start conversations that lead to an opportunity to share the Gospel. Amy, who is considering serving in the Middle East or among immigrants in Europe, said she and her teammate had conversations with two people, and in each case those people wanted to talk and have someone listen to them. Amy was a little frustrated at first because she felt the need to complete her “task” and share the Gospel. But afterward she said, “I learned the value of listening to people.”
Another participant, Rebecca, who would like to serve on one of the OM ships, went to a park where she and her outreach partner met a family at the playground. Rebecca began talking about God with the daughter, who was perhaps nine years old. The girl said she had been to church, so Rebecca asked if she had Jesus in her heart. The girl said no, and Rebecca told her an overview of the Gospel, explaining the Garden of Eden as God’s original plan, the entrance of sin into the world and that Jesus had come and died and was raised to life to solve the sin problem for us. Right there, the girl wanted to pray and ask Jesus to come into her heart. The mother was listening to the whole conversation, so may God use that in her heart, as well. Rebecca said the whole outreach experience in Atlanta “was awesome. It was a great experience.”
