Violin Lessons Opening DoorsOM InternationalAs a young girl growing up in South Korea, Miriam* played the violin as a hobby and only had formal training for three years. She enjoyed playing the violin in private, for her own relaxation or sometimes while she praised God. But, Miriam never imagined one day she’d be teaching violin lessons…all for the glory of God.A year ago, however, the Lord opened the door for her to give lessons to Solomon*, a 13-year-old Turkish boy, who, like Miriam, enjoyed playing the violin, but had no formal training until he met her. The first lesson, given in Solomon home, intrigued the neighbors who heard the music coming from the house and also wondered what the foreigner was doing in the Turkish home. One woman inquired of Solomon’s mother and that led Miriam to her next student, the 6-year-old daughter of the woman. Miriam explained upfront to the parents that she was a Christian, and that the students would learn songs about God, and that one of the twice-weekly lessons and the students’ concerts would be held in the local church that OM planted many years ago. The little girl’s father was opposed to his daughter going to church, but eventually agreed. Another student, who came along later, was also not allowed to attend the lessons and concerts in the church, but his parents did allow Miriam to give the lessons in their home. “This helps me to build relationships with the families as I spend time in their homes,” said Miriam, “and has opened more doors for me to build relationships with the locals.”
