A few weeks ago I had the privilege of being part of a team that went to a local refugee camp to minister to the people there. Some members of the OM Hungary team joined with a small Hungarian ministry group who minister there once a month. We took the Bus4Life with us to add touch of 'something different'.
We ministered to the kids and adults through various programs, games, kids gospel cartoons and a film and discussion time for the adults. The kids loved the novelty of sitting on the bus to watch 'Veggie Tales' in Hungarian and playing games under the trees afterward. For the adults we showed a short drama 'Escape through Andau' based on peoples experiences of their escape from Hungary in 1956. This was really relevant as it mirrored some of the experiences and feelings of the people we talked to. My heart went out to some of the young men we spoke to as they shared a little of their life.
One young man from Kabul, Afghanistan shared it had taken him 6 months to get to Hungary, by goodness what knows route, he had come with nothing and left behind nothing. He couldn't have been more than 22 but has no one in the world, he has no family left.
The last few hours in the afternoon saw us talking to a Kurdish man from Turkey with his family, a man who believes in a 'god', who knows the Koran, and also the Bible better than many Christians. He took us from Genesis to Revelation in a 15 min. synopsis!! He has obviously had many people share the Gospel with him and told us he has read the Bible through twice, but cannot equate a 'powerful God with all the cruelty in the world'. We shared and challenged him to look again at the Scriptures, that if he 'asked God'
to open the words of truth to himself He would' 'He would really do that for me?' was his reply.
We know that God can! Pray with us for Ahmed* and his Buddhist wife
Rahele* that they would come to know the heart truth of the words they know in their heads. Pray also for the many other young men and families in this and other camps throughout Hungary that they may hear and respond to the message of hope in the midst of their hopeless situation
