School bag project in Bosnia - choosing a bagEnglish/Espanol

Bosnia OM Bosnia Bihac team received three hundred schoolbags, school supplies and financial gifts from their partners in OM East. The team originally planned to distribute the bags at a school in the neighbouring town, which is entirely Muslim. There are many villages in the surrounding area, and often the children in the school come from poor families.

The OM team wanted to reach out specifically to help these children, and they thought giving schoolbags would provide a good opportunity. Each bag contained a little booklet about God. At first the director of the school liked the idea of giving out the bags and even thought the booklet would be OK. But, later he called to say that the booklets couldn't stay in the bag. Hearing this, the team faced a tough decision: do they take the booklets out but give the bags anyway? They did not just want to share a material blessing with the children. After prayer the team decided to go a different way.

They now plan to go to the villages and hand the bags out personally to the families. They will go door-to-door, speak to the people and offer the bags as free gifts, a blessing from God.

Please pray for the physical and spiritual protection of the OM workers and local helpers. Pray for good conversations with the people in the villages. Pray for God's blessing on each child who receives a schoolbag.

 

EL AMOR DE DIOS GUARDADO EN BOLSAS ESCOLARES

El equipo de OM Bosnia Bihac recibió cientos de bolsas para escolares, útiles escolares y apoyo financiero de parte OM en otros países. El plan original del equipo era distribuir las bolsas en una escuela de un pueblo cercano, el cual es enteramente musulmán. Hay muchas aldeas en el área, y a menudo los niños que van a la escuela vienen de familias muy pobres.

El equipo de OM quería alcanzarlos y pensaron que darles las bolsas con útiles escolares les daría una buena oportunidad. Cada bolsa contenía un pequeño libro acerca de Dios. Al principio, el director de la escuela estuvo de acuerdo con la distribución de las bolsas y pensó que el libro estaría bien. Pero, más tarde llamó al equipo para decirles que debían sacar el librito de las bolsas. Ahora el equipo enfrentaba una decisión difícil, ¿sacarían el librito y repartirían las bolsas? No querían solamente compartir la bendición material con los niños. Luego de orar el equipo decidió hacer algo diferente.

Ellos ahora planeaban ir a las aldeas y repartir las bolsas personalmente a las familias. Irían puerta por puesta, hablarían con la gente y ofrecerían las bolsas como un regalo gratuito, una bendición de parte de Dios.

Por favor ora por protección física y espiritual para los obreros de OM y los ayudantes locales. Ora por buenas conversaciones con la gente de las aldeas. Ora para que la bendición de Dios sea sobre cada niño que reciba una bolsa.

  • English/German teachers
    Teaching English and/or German is a great way to make contacts in Bosnia that can be followed up with a relationship in which you can share what Jesus has done and is still doing in your life.  You can aim at children/youth/students/adults
  • Evangelists/Bible teachers/Disciplers
    Be part of an exciting, focused church-planting ministry team sharing the gospel with and discipling Bosnian Muslims.

    The focus is on learning Bosnian well, adjusting culturally and developing good ministry skills.  This will involve extensive language study although this can often be combined with other relevant interests (teaching, sport, music, mercy and compassion ministries etc.). 

    Building relationships and seeking to share the gospel is expected from day one. We have currently two ministry teams and one new initiative with the possibility of new teams.
  • Mercy Ministry workers
    People in Bosnia Hercegovina have desperate physical needs. We need people who are ready to showing Gods compassion through mercy ministries, meeting physical needs of people and at the same time using every opportunity for evangelism, using evangelistic tools such as literature, Jesus film and prayer to share the gospel. Become part of the local body of Christ in showing the face of Jesus to the local communities. You will reach out to the poor, children and gypsies.
  • Mercy Ministry workers/Coordinating
    How would you like to work in an exciting new ministry and be responsible for the day-to-day management of a daily meal programme?

    Bosnia is still recovering from the effects of war and unemployment is estimated at 60%.  In Bihac it is more than 70% and many people live in desperate situations; some not even having the possibility of eating on a regular basis.  We have been involved in mercy and compassion ministries in Bihac as part of our church planting strategy since 1998 and have seen how God touched and changed the lives of many different people. We want to start a meal progamme as another exciting opportunity to reach out to people with desperate physical needs and at the same time share with them the Bread of Life!

    As Co-ordinater of this program you would oversee the staff (cook, assistant and volunteers) and be responsible for planning and organizing the meal programme.

    You will work together with the long-term OM team members.
  • Pioneer Church Planters
    Bosnia is a pioneering country with only 800-1000 evangelical believers in about 25 churches and/or small fellowships of believers.
    We have a desperate need for those willing to give YEARS to living amongst the people, learning the language, sharing their faith and being available to gather God's people into believing groups.
