Balaton-NET conference In Hungary
Jill Hitchcock
Last year saw the first ever Interdenominational Christian Conference for Hungary, in partnership with Keswick Convention out of England, and the Hungarian Evangelical Alliance and with world renowned Christian speaker Luis Palau.
This year ‘Balaton-NET’ again welcomed Christians from all over the region for 5 days of teaching, encouragement and fellowship on the shores of Lake Balaton, not just Hungarian but also German and English speakers attended. From the 20th – 25th August just under 1,000 people were challenged each evening by Ian Coffee’s messages on the theme ‘Message from the Frontline’ being reminded again that ‘God is there in the tough times’.
Ian Coffee from the UK gave the main message each evening and various Hungarians Pastors from different denominations led participants in study of Gods Word in the morning session. Throughout the day there were various seminar options to choose from as well as the Mission Expo to wander though. 35 exhibitors from both inside Hungary and International Groups gave people a taste of what God is doing here in Hungary and around the world.
We were especially blessed at the OM stand, as due to the generosity of George Verwer and Special Projects, we were able to give away nearly 200 copies of ‘No Turning Back’ in Hungarian to interested attendees of the missions Expo. This opportunity led to a number of encouraging conversations on the subjects of living a radical life with God and service in missions.
An exiting new addition for this year was OM’s ‘Bus4Life’. Parked alongside the Expo tent morning and evening, it was visual example of ‘missions on the move’, providing opportunity for those both interested in hosting the bus and wanting to join a bus outreach to see what ‘Bus4Life’ was all about. During the afternoons the bus moved to the lake side and provided a visible backdrop for the ‘NET-Beach’ activities. A group of enthusiastic young people led games for all the family each afternoon, attracting not only the conference participants but other holidaymakers as well.
Praise the Lord with us in Hungary for the impact this conference had on many lives, both those attending and the local people’s lives who were impacted by our presence there.
Pray for God’s spirit to continue working in peoples lives, drawing them into a deeper relationship with Him and causing them to seek His plan for their life. For the impact of the many books we sold and gave away to cause people to seek Him and His will for their lives
Pray that God will continue to lead and guide the organisers of this event that it will become a regular date on Hungarian Christian’s calendars.
