“God Saved the Best Taxi for Last”RhemagoodPaul was waiting for a taxi so he could go visit a friend, but every time one came by he was prevented from getting into it. At first, a couple drivers of empty taxis had driven right past Paul, waiving at him. The first taxi that actually slowed down went just beyond where Paul was standing and picked up a family. They had just arrived at the edge of the sidewalk, and hadn’t even had to wait for the ride. Paul stood and waited some more. Finally, another taxi pulled up and he got in—at last! However, no sooner had Paul sat down in the back seat when an Orthodox priest, in long black robes with a big wooden cross hanging from his neck, opened the door and got into the front seat! The cab driver turned around and said to Paul very matter-of-factly, “Get out.” He got out and resumed his position on the sidewalk. All things work together for good.... Another taxi pulled up, Paul got in without a problem and they took off. Right off the bat, the driver asked, “Are you a Christian?” This is not the way most conversations start off in this part of the world! Not even in a Muslim country that officially recognizes it’s citizens of Orthodox Christian heritage. It turned out that the cab driver was an Arab who had been born in Jerusalem, and as a young man had decided to become a Jew. After some time, he had concluded that Judaism wasn’t the way to God and joined the Orthodox Christian Church. Later, he rejected “Christianity” and became a Muslim. Finally, being disillusioned with them all, he decided to bypass religion altogether and “go direct” to God. Paul agreed that every individual did have to come to God personally, and was able to share the Gospel with him. When they arrived at Paul’s destination, he didn’t want to get out of the cab. Realizing that God had kept him waiting on the sidewalk so long for the purpose of meeting this particular taxi driver, he said, “Leave the meter running and let’s keep talking.” They talked for 45 more minutes. When he understood the message clearly, the driver declared, “If that’s the way it is, I like it!” After asking what church Paul went to that taught such things, he added, “Thank you, for opening my eyes to this.” -by Rhema Good, revised 9/15/05 This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view itCredit:
