Empowering the women of Hyderabad

Asian women carrying basketsA team working in a slum community on the outskirts of Hyerabad runs sewing classes several evenings a week for young girls ages 13 to 21. Sixteen girls attend these classes. They work as housemaids during the day, starting as early as 6:30 am, and come directly from work to their tailoring classes.

Despite being tired, these women are grateful for the opportunity of learning a new skill and never miss a class. During class, the team also takes time to read from the Bible and pray for these women. Many of them come from troubled homes and are grateful for the opportunity to share their concerns and have someone pray for them.

The team has also built toilets for the women in the community. The women are glad that they now have a place of their own and do not have to go out in the open. This not only fills a felt need, but it will also improve the overall health of women and others in the community as waste is dealt with properly and hygenically.  The team is planning to construct more toilets in the near future.
