OM has been ministering in Bosnia-Hercegovina since 1998. The first team started
in Bihać, in the northwestern part of Bosnia. In 2001 a second team was started in
Sarajevo, the capital, working with and supporting the local evangelical churches.
OM teams focus on church planting along with the national evangelical church through
friendship evangelism: teaching language courses (English, German,
Portuguese), guitar and craft classes (with the goal of beginning evangelistic Bible
studies); humanitarian aid distribution; personal visits; one-on-one discipleship
with believers; sports activities; and children and youth ministry.
In Bihać the team planted the town’s first evangelical church, which was
officially registered in December 2003.
In November 2006 OM changed their church planting strategy from the congregational church model
to the house church model. Blessed and sent out by the local Pentecostal church, most of the
Sarajevo team members moved to Dobrinja, a suburb of Sarajevo, to focus on church planting.
Immersing themselves in the community they started a book table in the main walking area
(creating an opportunity for people to get Christian literature very cheap or for free).
This generated a lot of interesting conversations which led to "putting a roof"
over the book table in the form of a reading cafe where people can come to read books in a
nice atmosphere, talk about matters of faith and where they teach different courses (English,
Portuguese and guitar). Other ministry includes prayer walking, cleaning up parks, bible studies
with people in their homes and having prayer meetings and bible studies in different local coffee bars.
From October 2006 till November 2007, since the change to the house church model, the OM team has
seen the church in Bihać grow from 6 national believers to 30 national believers meeting in several
houses on a regular basis.
The latest ministry initiative is the North-West expansion; starting in 2008 and using Bihać as
a base, the Gospel will be taken to the many small villages in the North-West of Bosnia using relief,
radio and literature distribution with the aim of starting bible studies and eventually house churches.
OM works very closely with the national evangelical church in Bosnia Hercegovina.
