Iran
Central Asia map

Iran, a large Muslim country in Central Asia, known for its' oppressive government and persecution of believers, but where many nationals are turning to Christ. Iran boasts a population of 71 million and an ancient and noble civilization. The revolution of Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979 brought an oppressive regime which enforced Islamic law. This resulted in economic stagnation and widespread dissatisfaction, frustration and despair.

In Iran today, where 70 percent of the population is below 30 years of age, the country boasts the highest rate of drug addiction in the world and one of the highest numbers of suicides. Millions of Iranians have fled as refugees and are now living all over the world.

There has always been a church among the Christian minorities but since the revolution increasing disillusionment with Islam has led thousands of Iranians to turn to Jesus. Many estimate that there are hundreds of thousands of believers inside and outside the country. Continuing persecution by the government has led to the birth of a burgeoning house church movement. More Iranians have come to faith in the last 25 years than in the last 1400 years. We believe Iran is an open door and now is the hour for the Church worldwide to unite and work together to bring in this harvest.
