Only Jesus, the Light of the world, dispels the darkness we see around us with love, peace, hope, and joy. The Light that Christmas reveals offers a peace transcending all human understanding, transforming individual lives, families, and communities around the globe.
Take South Asia for example: a region where Hinduism and Islam comprise the majority of the population. Surya, raised in a Hindu family, initially resisted attending a local church. At 15, her brother’s invitation led her to explore Christianity. Despite challenges, including her family’s opposition and the need to hide her Bible, she turned to Jesus as His light brought her out of darkness. At 21, she decided to be baptized, even though her mother wanted her to leave. Eventually, witnessing the miracles through Surya’s ministry, both her parents became followers of Jesus.
Today, from training new Jesus followers with her husband to discipling young women, Surya helps the global body of believers to reveal the light of Christ “to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light” (Acts 26:18A).
