Many people will look back and be glad 2020 is over; however, when we look back, we acknowledge the hardships but also are grateful for the Lord’s provision and care in a period of so much uncertainty, pain and anxiety.
We mourn with our brothers and sisters in Christ over those we’ve lost to COVID-19 and related difficulties. Yet in the midst of suffering, we also saw—and continue to see—fellow Jesus followers rally around our organisation and each other. For example, we thank God for the love offerings from churches and individuals that helped carry us through the whole year; when OMers’ income and support were affected, the organisation was able to draw from the extra donations to tide them over.
Also, while we’re careful and cooperative with local authorities to ensure that we do our part to contain COVID-19, there were many opportunities for our teams in 2020 to connect with people in a new way. OM teams around the world have been busy engaging with their communities in careful ways and have seen wonderful spiritual results as OMers brought the message of healing and hope to those they came into contact with, whether virtually or in person.
Latin America, for example, hosted a virtual Christmas event on 18 December, which reached around 450 people. We also think of the Sahel region and South Asia, where hundreds of people were baptised into the family of God during the COVID-period. In South Asia, our teams shared food and sanitation packages with local communities; those connections have opened up new access to people we’ve tried so hard to connect with for years. So, while we acknowledge the great hardships and grief, we also look back on 2020 with a sense of deep gratitude for God’s protections and provisions.
This year-in-review celebrates the many ways God worked through this ministry in 2020. We know that God’s mission requires all believers to utilise the gifts, talents and passions He’s given each of us. I am thankful to be part of a movement of individuals living out Christ’s love across the globe. Thank you for your partnership in 2020.
Until all have heard of His fame and renown,
We are a global community of Jesus followers, united to share God's love with those who don't know it.
As missionaries, marketplace professionals, artists, pastors, teachers and more, we ALL have a role to play in spreading the gospel.
