The North Caucasus

People in the North Caucasus need access to the good news of who Jesus is and what He's done for us.

While the Caucasus region is composed of the nations that lie between the Black and Caspian seas, the North Caucasus specifically refers to the southern part of the Russian Federation, including the republics of Adygea, Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, North Ossetia-Alania, Ingushetia, Chechnya and Dagestan.

Sharing Love in the North Caucasus

Jesus followers are spreading Christ’s love through investment in understanding local cultures, building new communities of believers and equipping Russian Christians to settle into the region and reach their neighbours and co-workers. In an area where religion often divides people, local believers are building bridges across ethnic groups and languages, living out the love of Jesus that brings peace and unity.

Jesus Followers in the North Caucasus

The region is home to more than five million people, including more than 40 ethnic groups; and while Russia in general is roughly 66% Christian, most of those Jesus followers aren’t located in the North Caucasus. Indeed, people in the area can be difficult to reach with the gospel for several reasons, including a diversity of cultures, and the fact that many don’t have access to the Bible in their own languages. Historically, political instability and ethnic conflicts have also made it difficult for outsiders to reach the people of the North Caucasus with the good news of Jesus. As a result, Islam permeates all aspects of community life, and the small communities of local Christ followers face strong opposition from both society and political authorities.

What we can do

Pray that believers in other parts of the world, including me, would also be burdened and consider how we might join God’s work in the North Caucasus.

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."
