Mercy Teams International, an OM ministry, has a school in Japanese Well, near the border crossing from West Thailand into Myanmar

Because of the political situation and ongoing unrest in Myanmar, schooling is often disrupted and the education for children living in the village and surrounding jungle region is difficult to access. There is a continuing need for basic education for poor (internally-displaced) children in the area from the Burmese, Mon and Karen ethnic groups.

The School of Mercy presently provides education with an emphasis on the Christian faith for to up to 130 children. The school follows the Burmese school curriculum, covers Grades 1 - 7, and has a teaching medium of Burmese language.

Uniforms and school supplies are provided free-of-charge, and children are given a nutritious meal once a week as well as daily milk, protein and fruit supplements. Clean drinking water is also provided for each child. Discipleship classes are a part of the programme and elementary spoken English is taught to the older grades. A boarding home was also needed for some students who travelled from far away.

The school's objectives:

1. Provide quality basic education in a healthy and safe environment, with the long-term aim of developing the children spiritually and helping them to mature in Christian character.

2. Minister to the children’s educational, social, medical and spiritual needs.

3. Reach out to the children and their community with basic health care and education.

Your generous gifts will bring food, education and the Gospel to these needy children. Thank you.
