We all need hope

“All they want is love. All they want is a hug or someone to sit there with them. They want attention, they want somebody to be with them. We should take time to sit with them, pray and talk to them.”

Caron Peter (India) shared her feelings after visiting a local elderly home. A team of Logos Hope volunteers spent the day sharing joy and hope with elderly people who do not usually receive a lot of visitors.

The team sang ‘This is the day that the Lord has made’ in Spanish which helped the home’s residents to feel more comfortable with the crewmembers, followed by more songs. Some knew the songs and crewmembers were joyful, seeing them sing along. “Some would dance or try and do the actions slowly,” Caron commented.

The team shared a message about Jesus and His love, and seeing that most residents are not Christians, Janina Betz (Germany) shared the gospel. “I think God spoke through us to the people in the home. I was very thankful that we could interact with them. I could see that some in our team had a gift to talk to them,” she said. Janina explained that even though she cannot measure it, she knows that their message will have an impact.

School children also joined the Logos Hope team. Their initial idea was to spend time with the volunteers to practice English, but they also ended up making origami butterflies all together for their elderly friends, on which they wrote Bible verses or messages such as ‘Jesus loves you’.

“When we started saying goodbye, their hugs were tighter, they wanted to bless us. I think they felt the love we tried to show them,” Caron concluded.

Through their care and through the message of truth shared, the team had the opportunity to remind each person in the home of their own value in the eyes of God, hoping they would be inspired.
