History was made as the inaugural TeenStreet in Egypt took place from 31 August – 6 September. TeenStreet, a ministry of OM, with the vision to grow the next generation in their love for God and people, takes place around the world, each one contextualised to its home culture. TeenStreet Egypt, the first in the Arab world, is unique with Arabic as its main language.
This year over 80 teens and adults experienced the theme Making History, a study of the life of Joseph, who as a teenager came to this very nation and was used by God to save Egypt and thus made history.
Every morning, the theme was presented in creative ways before participants met in small groups, during which they studied the Bible, shared with one another, encouraged and prayed for each other.
Afternoons were spent in activities like sports and art, and teens could attend seminars. The evening worship sessions, called Throne Room, were a highlight for many, as they worshiped God and prayed for each other.
Throughout the week, teens also participated in practical ministry through outreach to local orphanages and a hospital.
God touched the lives of both teens and leaders. Many teens said that they experienced God speaking to them during TeenStreet in new ways. They learnt that God wants to use them as they are.
On the second day, a leader sat down with a teen to talk about what had happened after the teen had broken a couple rules. When the leader asked the teen what he thought about the camp so far, the teen eagerly told his story: “Last night at Throne Room I felt like I was surrounded by God. He spoke to me. He said He wants to change me, and I think He did, and He is still making something new inside me.
“When I have failed before, laughing at people or saying bad words, I have always felt as if I disappointed God,” he continued. “But now I feel like something different and great is happening inside me. Now, I have experienced that God’s grace is for me too.”
On the last day, the teens were challenged to become history-makers by being salt and light in Egypt and throughout the earth.
“Our prayer is that the teens will get to know Jesus better, grow in their faith and be a part of God’s plan in making history in this land and beyond,” said the TeenStreet Egypt director.
TeenStreet leadership plans to support the local youth leaders throughout the year, as they maintain relationships with the teens.
Pray for the teens and their youth leaders as they process this experience and call on their lives.
