Jesus said to his disciples that they were to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15; NIV). But what is the Gospel? And does it really have the power to transform lives and communities?
Over 2,300 teens and adults embarked on a time travelling mission in Global Village at TeenStreet Europe this summer. Participants stopped off at different points in time, starting with Creation, where they saw how God made everything good, and yet humanity’s rebellion against God’s plan filled the earth with chaos and disorder.
Next was Rescue, a hands-on experience of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, with a challenge to tell others what they had seen in the final stop, Restoration. Here participants encountered a carefully constructed simulation of needs such as poverty, imprisonment and prostitution, designed to create awareness and mobilise a missional response.
Taking participants on a time travel through the past, to the present and into the future, Global Village at TeenStreet Europe 2014 encouraged participants to explore the reality of the Gospel and challenged them to reflect God’s love.
Here are a few of their responses:
“I will tell others even if I am afraid and don’t have the right words.”
“I was challenged as to why I believe what I believe.”
“I am responsible for Christ’s death and it is me who helped nail him to the cross and finally pull it up to stand in front of me.”
“I am ready to do what God wants me to.”
“God touched my heart. This is my purpose in life. He reminded me through you guys. Thank you!”
As a result of this experience, over 35 travellers from more than 15 countries requested more information on how they can “go into all the world” as Jesus said. Want to get involved?
