Meet Mpumi Maweni, new Director of Transform

OM Europe and the Transform team are excited to introduce Mpumi Maweni as the new Director of Transform. Mpumi is from South Africa and has been working in Europe as well as South Africa for a number of years.

“Transform is the direct reason I am a missionary in Europe,” shares Mpumi. “The first mission trip I went to outside of my continent was with Transform and through it, God confirmed my missionary calling.”

Mpumi first joined the MDT (OM’s Mission Discipleship Training) in South Africa in 2009. Being introduced to fellow MDT students who were fervent in prayer and serious about taking the gospel to the nations, Mpumi soon shared the same passion. For the next three years he worked with OM South Africa, leading a team that helped pioneer a youth ministry in the townships. He was also involved in mobilising others through the church partnership team and the University Ministry, and enjoyed weekly street evangelism, mentoring and training the new MDT-ers at the OM Training base.

Taking the Gospel to the nations became a reality in 2011 when Mpumi joined a Transform Conference in Rome.

During the Transform conference and outreach Mpumi found a growing heart for the needs in Europe. Soon after his summer with Transform he moved to the UK and the LifeHope team. As part of the Transit Challenge team leadership, Mpumi has visited a number of European fields and developed a good understanding of the situation and the needs.

“Gary Witherall (Transform founder) may never realize how his story and testimony has inspired me personally, and I have also used his story in motivating my team,” shares Mpumi.

“I come not knowing all the answers, not with my own ‘strength, bow & arrow’, but in the strength of the one who has called me,” says Mpumi in closing.

While we (OM Europe and the Transform team) are thankful to Gary Witherall’s leadership over the last seven years, we are also looking forward to this new phase and ask you to pray for Mpumi as he moves into his new leadership role. It seems fitting now that Transform is in a transition period we welcome a leader who found a heart for Europe during his time with Transform.
