While in Yangon, Logos Hope is sending out teams to visit orphanages and childcare centres for abandoned children almost every day. These orphanages and centres are located in rural villages, where houses are mostly built out of simple materials. Apart from having fellowship with the children, love is shown in practical ways through repairing and refurbishing the buildings and the surrounding environment where they live.
When a team visited Agape Orphanage, the intention was to do flooring for the compounds between the dining room and the hostels. When the team arrived, heavy flooding of the grounds, due to rain, impeded the work and reiterated the need for proper flooring. Regardless, the team spent an incredible day at the orphanage and were impressed at how the children looked after one another like brothers and sisters. The team gave out some sporting equipment to them as well as the stationary sets which were donated by visitors of the ship in Hong Kong. Squeals of excitement were heard as the children opened their presents gingerly and held their new stationary sets in disbelief.
Two days later, an event for children from these orphanages and centres was held on board twice and more than 600 children attended. Drama, juggling, clowning and dance performances kept every child at the edge of their seat. Each child received 500 units of book voucher, also donated by visitors in Hong Kong, to spend at the book fair - which was a real delight for them. There will be repeated visits to these orphanages and centres to continue carrying out work like painting, flooring and repairing while Logos Hope remains in Yangon. Pray that these children will be able to grow strong both physically and spiritually even under challenging circumstances.
