Logos Hope’s first ever visit to Myanmar already saw close to 4,000 visitors come on board within the first 3 hours of opening. There is high expectancy from the locals who have heard so much of the ship. Crewmembers are watching the numbers climb with bated breath as this would be the port where they expect to witness an important milestone in the ship’s history as Logos Hope welcomes her five-millionth visitor.
During the official opening, Chief Minister of Yangon region, His Excellency Myint Swe, commented that Logos Hope’s visit is a historic moment for Myanmar. “This is a golden opportunity for the people of Myanmar to meet different people and experience the strong sense of unity and diversity on board,” said Mr. Myint Swe. Shipping agent, Mr. Kyaw Nyein, who assisted in getting permission for Doulos to enter Myanmar back in 1998 and 2002, was glad to be on the ship again after 13 years of waiting. Despite the differences in faith, Mr. Kyaw Nyein affirms that the purpose of the ship, helping others, is universal. “Logos Hope provides good exposure and educational opportunities for the country,” he noted. “I’m sure there will be much mutual learning during this visit.”
Although it is a short two weeks visit, crewmembers hope to achieve as much as possible during this time. There are many opportunities to bless and help the community through the numerous practical work and help projects lined up in this port. One pastor who worked with the advance preparation team to arrange onshore projects, Rev. David, is thankful for the ship's visit. "Logos Hope is part of bringing transformation to our country through education and help, and that really touches our hearts," he said.
