Reaching vulnerable people affected by the war in Ukraine, seeking safety in Poland.
OM in Poland is providing aid and services meeting immediate needs of refugees crossing the border, offering psychosocial support and psychological first aid, supporting mums and children fleeing Ukraine. Through simple acts of service we’re offering comfort, bringing hope and living out Christ’s love to those who need it the most.
Participants will assist mothers with babies and children at border crossings through an OM trailer with baby facilities, help them feed and entertain childen, run kid’s programs at reception centers, carry luggage, distribute aid, serve drinks and snacks, and provide information to prevent human trafficking and other security threats. When time permits, they may spend time with refugees waiting for buses, in the trailer or reception centers, offering listening ears and sharing God’s love through words of encouragement and prayer.
The ministry will also include everyday chores and meal preparation at the team house, organizing the warehouse, and being an encouragement and a good example to non-OM volunteers working on the ground. Meals are an opportunity for fellowship and sharing.
Due to the fact that we’re working in a humanitarian disaster situation, the scope and location of ministry may need to be adjusted without prior notification.
We invite participants who are:
Basic accommodation in a team house (private house or community hall). Please bring your own towel and sleeping bag. Accommodation options vary from double rooms to large, shared bedroom (sleeping on a mattress), depending on the team. Access to shower facilities may require going to another building. Pack light, storage space is limited.
Meals at team house and at the border are provided (breakfast and a cooked lunch/dinner, snacks).
Participants need to arrange and cover their travel expense to and from Chełm. We recommend a flight to Chopin International Airport (WAW) and a train to Chełm from Warszawa Centralna Railway Station or Warszawa Wschodnia. You will need about 1 hour to transfer from the airport to the train station. Buy a train ticket online at: https://www.intercity.pl/en/
