Recent news stories have been full of reports about natural disasters in various parts of the globe. We mourn the loss of so many lives as a result of these natural disasters; we grieve for survivors whose realities have been forever altered. The love of Christ compels us to serve those needing immediate and ongoing relief. Together we shall be the love of Christ to those that are hurting and in need.
Hurricane Disaster Response:
OM is assessing areas affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. With Maria out of the way, we are now gaining a clearer picture of immediate needs. Over the next few days, we will be determining our response to those needs.
Your gift today will go toward assisting with immediate needs. Our aim is to provide:
We are planning to coordinate delivery of relief supplies by our ship, Logos Hope, to evacuees from Barbuda, now staying on Antigua in the Caribbean. Several hundred staff of Logos Hope will help with the first phase of cleanup there.
Mexico Earthquake Relief:
We are raising funds to help people affected by the earthquake. Our team members on the ground are working with volunteers and partner organizations to assess the most urgent needs as well as what will be needed for the long-term rebuilding process.
Flooding in South East Asia:
Bangladesh has been hit with its worst flooding in 200 years. It is difficult to confirm the final number of casualties but, so far, about 20 million have been affected by the flooding and approximately 100,000 homes have been destroyed. As an organization which has been working in Bangladesh for many years, we cannot simply turn our backs on this crisis. Together with you we want to demonstrate the love of God.
OM runs five regional centres in Bangladesh where we are already conducting holistic outreaches. Through these centres, we have contact with many families affected by the floods. We desire to help 1000 families with emergency relief aid such as food, medicine, and mosquito nets.
OM is in need of your financial support to fulfill this project vision and make a tangible difference for so many families across Bangladesh affected by the flooding.
• Emergency food packets across 5 districts: anticipated 1,000 families helped at approximately $50 CDN per packet
• Rebuilding shelters: 200 shelters built costing approximately 650 CDN each (including distribution costs) are rising as resources become higher in demand.
