Our aim in Mozambique, since 1999, has been to train Mozambicans to be missionaries to the least reached areas of Zambezia and other northern provinces in the country. We operate one of the only missions training schools in Mozambique.

We actually began working in Mozambique in 1995, training local pastors and leaders through seminars. This training would soon become an established discipleship training programme.

Mozambique has been badly broken from colonialism and decades of civil war, and back in 1995, it was considered the world’s poorest nation. The government has worked hard to strengthen the economy, lay true democratic foundations and bind up wounds from the past.

Religious freedom is another significant development in Mozambique. Between 1975 and 1982, the agenda was exclusive propagation of Marxism and “all-out war on the churches”; freedom of religion was not established until 1988.

Our Ministries in Mozambique

Leadership Development

Lay-preachers and leaders of the Mozambican church do not generally have access to sound Biblical training. We want to change this situation by providing these people with short-term training courses. The leaders of the local churches attend a week long intensive training course at the OM Training Centre offered four times a year.

Discipleship Training

This training exists to mobilise the local Christian church to witness the love of God to these people. There is a good number of future church leaders and missionaries that cannot afford the cost of the training (the training includes food, accommodation and educational materials). We are raising funds to support them, so they may become involved with the calling to missions God has set before them.

Local Church & Youth Ministry

The OM Centre is located in Incaia, in the Gaza Province of Mozambique. It is situated right next to the main road on the way to the north of Mozambique. There are a large number of new churches with lay-pastors in the area, and the youth population is moving constantly from the rural areas to the big cities in search for money. We see the need to support the work of these churches and mobilise them to reach the youth and transform the community. Our team in Incaia has many open doors to train, equip and mobilise the local churches in the Gaza and Inhambane Provinces, as well as reaching out to the church in Maputo as well.

Community Transformation

Northern Mozambique is an area with little or no educational opportunities for its children. We are working in the north with the purpose of planting a church led by local believers. We have a small team working there. This project is to raise the necessary funds to meet the financial needs of the team - travel, evangelism, and community projects - which is necessary to plant a new church there. At present this is the only church there!

Tabitha Skills Development

Adult literacy and skills training to ladies, enabling them to provide for their households and be encouraged to reach others in their community. Women from rural areas in Africa are often uneducated or illiterate and therefore unable to generate any form of income. In some cases their husbands are disabled, making them the sole providers of their families. When widowed, they face many obstacles in caring for their children and often extended families. Equipping such women with various skills will enable them to break the poverty cycle and add to their self-worth. Women and young girls who are illiterate or who have been unable to finish their schooling are our main target group.

Tabitha is not only focussed on teaching women skills like adult literacy, catering, beading, knitting and tailoring, but also discipling them as women of God with a heart for global missions. Through Tabitha, God is transforming the lives of many women to where they can provide for their families. Skills development also decreases the vulnerability and likelihood for marginalized women and their children being forced into the sex industry and other forms of slavery.
