Partnership Overview

While working with the Communications and Marketing Department you will be involved in producing and supporting OM Canada's content in various forms to tell the global OM story to our Canadian audience.

Required Skills

Accountable to the Director of Communications and Marketing

Content Creation and Management: In conjunction with the Communications and Marketing Department, facilitate our communications internally and externally including news, prayer items, projects, and recruiting, through use of all available media.

Core activities:

Working together with the Communications and Marketing Department;

  1. Plan, schedule, and produce written content for our Canadian audience.
  2. Through research, interviews, and provided material, craft thoughtful and engaging content pieces such as news articles, stories, fundraising appeals, and any other required content pieces for use in print and digital media,
  3. Develop and maintain a content calendar ensuring content is scheduled, written, and published on time.
  4. Develop and implement strategies to engage our Canadian audience.
  5. Update and post new content on our website and on social media channels.
  6. Work with other departments to create required content and to update current communication pieces.
  7. Monitor and evaluate the performance of content by effectively utilizing reporting tools such as Google Analytics, email reporting tools, and CRM software.
  8. Ensure all content adheres to the OM brand guidelines.

Other Responsibilities:

  1. Work with the Director of Communications and Marketing to identify relevant and compelling stories and content pieces for use in our communication initiatives.
  2. With the Communications Department, develop a range of strategies to increase our reach and engagement by evaluating current status and trends.
  3. Work with the Communications Department to support the needs of all OM Canada's efforts, filling in as needed.
  4. Communicating with and keeping updated on OM International's global marketing efforts and campaigns.
  5. Work with the Communications Department to broaden awareness of OM's work in Canada and around the world.
  6. Maintain a knowledge of developments, innovations, and new technology in the communications and marketing field and identify any that may benefit OM Canada.
  7. Fulfill other duties as required.

A. Ministry involvement Ensure you are actively involved in team life at your location when possible, in order to ensure you are ministering to others and being ministered to. 

Core activities

  1. Actively participate on a regular basis in team devotions, prayer times, meetings and social functions.
  2. Serve practically within the team to ensure whatever needs to be done is done well and the load is shared around. 
  3. Seek to be an encouragement to your fellow team members.

B. Support base development Actively engage with the support raising culture of the OM Canada team. Although all OM Canada team salaries are fixed and subject to the salary bands of our remuneration policy, all team members should build a network of supporters who will pray and contribute to our ministry. The exact amount that we will want you to raise in order to help finance your position will be communicated to you at the start of each calendar year.

Core activities

  1. Maintain regular contact with your prayer partners, financial supporters and sending church(es) - developing relationships that minister to them and further your partnership with them.
  2. Develop your prayer and financial support base on a continual basis by asking individuals, groups and churches to join your support team as you have opportunity.

C. Safe working practices Ensure work is carried out in accordance with written and verbal communicated internal and external safety, environmental and country specific legal regulation in order to ensure safe working practice.

Core activities

  1. Ensure that both your own and the area in which you are working is kept clean, orderly and safe.
  2. Ensure a safe and correct usage and adequate maintenance tools and equipment that have been used.
  3. Work in accordance with verbal and written communicated safety and environmental regulations and understand and know the risks and risk assessments related to your role and duties.

Minimum preferred requirements

  • 2 years of written content creation experience (stories, articles, appeals) for various types of audiences (Example: younger generation, donors)
  • 2 years working in a team environment with schedules and deadlines.

Required knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree in communications/writing or equivalent combination of professional and academic experience preferred

Technical competencies

Core competencies

  • Proficiency in using various other applications such as the Microsoft Office 365 programs, Microsoft Teams, Adobe Creative Cloud, file sharing systems.
  • Understanding and experience writing for social media audiences.
  • Good understanding of current communications and marketing trends and requirements for print and digital.
  • Experience using website content management systems such as WordPress is an asset.
  • Experience using email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact is an asset.
  • Experience writing grants is an asset.
  • Graphic design skills are an asset.
  • Excellent grasp of the Canadian English language, both verbal and written
  • Excellent writing and editing skills for various audiences
  • Excellent ability to manage time and multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to innovate and to generate new ideas
  • Ability to learn new skills
  • Ability to speak and write Canadian French is an asset
