David Boey thought his confirmation of God’s will while on Doulos meant he would continue in the mission field, as was his heart’s desire. Little did He know, God had another plan for David to inspire others to go.

During David Boey’s early years in Penang, he was involved with the Boys Brigade ministry, reaching out to youth from all walks of life. God used those years to convict him to look beyond the four walls of the church.

It was during a short time on board Doulos in 1988 that David felt God confirming His call for him to enter full-time ministry. After much prayer and seeking, he opted for early retirement and went for full-time theological training at Seminari Theoloji Malaysia. Upon graduation however, he was posted by the Chinese Annual Conference of the Methodist church to pastor a church. This was not what he anticipated as he always wanted to be in the mission field directly.

“I had to learn to submit to His leading. I was reminded to be flexible, adaptable and teachable, always.

But God knew best and over the years of being a pastor and also as part of OM in Malaysia’s board of directors, David realised that God had been charting his path to be a sender.

“God, in His wisdom and grace, has enabled me to equip and challenge church members to PRAY, GIVE and GO.  Yearly, members from the church I was shepherding would sign up for the then OM Malaysia ‘Out of the Comfort Zone Conference and Outreach’ and thank God, a big group have had the opportunity of being equipped and exposed to the field of missions.

“Praise God that a few have also taken on the challenge to go into full-time ministry and are still actively involved till today.

After his compulsory retirement from pastoral ministry at 65, God opened another area of ministry for him to serve in Our Daily Bread (ODB) Ministries.  Many new windows of opportunities were opened to reach out to churches across denominations as well as to other para church organisations.

“Thank God for opportunities to collaborate and mobilize fellow Christians to intentionally reach out, reminding them to love God and to love others.

“We serve a missional God who loves all people. As a vibrant community of Jesus followers, let us fulfil the primary task of the Great Commission that Jesus gives us.”
